Kankakee & South Western Railroad

History

In 1878, the Illinois Central Railroad undertook a project to connect its two North-South lines closer to Chicago.  Undertaken more-or-less under the Kankakee & South Western Railroad, the result was a line from Otto to through Saxony to Minonk JCT with a second line branching off at Saxony to Normal.  In addition, a short segment was built Northwest from Buckingham.
